Israel's women's tennis team went back home yesterday after losing its World Group II playoff tie with Estonia, three games to two. The Israeli tennis-player Shachar Peer - who is now ranked 53 in the world - was easily defeated by the Estonian (number 19) Kaia Kanepi. Dad writes that someone in the stands raised a sign saying "Elagu Kanepi Peer!", which translates as "Long live the cannabis fart!".
Sometimes if feels just great living in Israel. Especially when you get this kind of messages from the government. This is a color chart that explains how much time you have when the missile alarm sounds. Got it this morning via snail mail. The table on the right reads: "How much time do you have, to get to the sheltered area? 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 minutes, 3 minutes". Then there are special provisions for those close to the Gaza strip: 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 and 60 seconds. We personally have 2 minutes to get organized. Very encouraging.
Guys, will you make up your mind? Walla claims that Ehud Barak will build a tunnel between Gaza and the West Bank for a mere $2-3million. Ynet is more conservative, and goes for the same figure in billions (heb, eng). In any case, this is gonna be the longest road tunnel in the world, measuring 48km, and surpassing Lærdal tunnel in Norway, which currently holds the world record at a mere 24.5km. I guess that election time in Israel is when all kinds of weird inventions come around. Way to go Barak. I thought you still had a little bit of common sense left.
Has anyone seen those new Tzipi Livni billboards? The ones with her less-than-flattering image, and the inscription "Tzipi Livni - what's good for the country"? Looks like a PR trick of some kind, by one of her opponents. I wonder what the sequel will look like.
It's election time, again ...
There's a great mystery around the horrendous murder of the Fisher family (probably by Michael, the father) in Hod Hasharon. The topic came up in a family gathering yesterday, and the only motive we could think of was - Michael finding out that the children weren't his. My sister, who works for the police, said she had no inside info on this case. Poor children. Another victims of murderous parents.
Being a "hot Estonian" has its perks sometimes :)
